HUMANNESS: promoting active citizenship and civic engagement across Europe and beyond!

Active citizenship means involvement in democratic processes at all levels, from local to regional to global, and building bonds, trust, and solidarity within and among communities to develop more just and resilient societies.

Given the current low levels of civic engagement and participation, it is crucial to promote active citizenship, democratic participation, and solidarity efforts, especially among young people.

On December 6-7, 2022, 4 European organisations (Libera - Italy, Between - Portugal, OBESSU - Belgium, “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center - Cyprus) and the Intercultural Development Agency from Uganda launched an innovative 2-year Erasmus+ project in Rome (Italy): “HUMANNESS: EU Social Challenges and Civic Engagement for Solidarity” (n° 2022-1-IT03-KA220-YOU-00008960). The project aims at enhancing democratic and active participation of youth workers and marginalized young people across partners’ countries

The project aims to strengthen the democratic and active participation of youth workers and marginalized youth in partner countries. Through the development of strategic tools and methodologies to facilitate social inclusion and skills development of at-risk youth, the project aspires to promote opportunities for knowledge sharing related to social cohesion and development, democracy, and inclusiveness.

The partnership aims to engage youth workers to be trained and eventually reach vulnerable youth living in difficult contexts. They will benefit from the skills and methods acquired by youth workers, whose goal is to support and engage them in active citizenship and solidarity initiatives.

In the framework of the project, the partnership will:

  • Map youth-related practices of solidarity efforts in EU and on-EU project countries;

  • Develop a Youth Community Engagement Model, setting professional guidelines at disposal of youth workers to build their capacity and foster their knowledge in the field of Active Citizenship;

  • Implement the School for Active Citizenship in Uganda, a unique occasion for EU and non-EU youth workers to discuss solidarity challenges and the EU core values of civic engagement in a globalised world;

  • Raise awareness on project’s key actions through a Communication Campaign in Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Cyprus, and Uganda.
