"FORM" Project Advances Therapeutic Foster Care for Unaccompanied Minors

The "FORM" project, a collaborative initiative co-founded by Erasmus+ and set to run until 2025, is making significant strides in enhancing therapeutic foster care for Unaccompanied Minors (UMR) across European member states. With a consortium of esteemed partners, the project aims to create a comprehensive knowledge base, develop a therapeutic foster care model, provide specialized training, and offer policy recommendations for foster families. The project partners are: ODISEE, Universitaet Kasel, “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center, Pleegzorg Oost-Vlaanderen v.z.w., Centro Nazionale Opere Salesiane SCS and European Network of Social Authorities.

The objectives of the project are to develop a knowledge base through conducting a thorough literature review on research and existing guidance practices in the context of foster care for UMR in European member state countries. Furthermore, to develop a guidance model for therapeutic foster care tailored to the unique needs of professionals in the field. Using the model, also create a training programme focused on exile-specific therapeutic foster care. And offer insights and recommendations for policy implementation to support foster families caring for UMR.

A pivotal moment in the project unfolded during a transnational partnership meeting in Nicosia in November 2023. Attendees were provided with a sneak peek into the updated training program based on the developed model. The final version of the program is set to be unveiled by the end of January 2024.

The meeting also featured presentations on the services offered by “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center, including insightful field visits to a shelter for Unaccompanied Minors and the Children's House. The exchange of ideas and experiences during this event further solidified the commitment of the FORM project partners to the betterment of therapeutic foster care for Unaccompanied Minors.

As the project progresses, FORM remains dedicated to fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and ultimately making a lasting positive impact on the lives of Unaccompanied Minors in need of therapeutic care.
