Safe in Town: Strengthening Integrated Child Protection in selected European Municipalities through the development and activation of comprehensive City Child Safeguarding Policies (CCSP)
Safe in Town (project no. 101195346) is a project designed to make cities safer places for children.
Co-funded by the EU’s CERV-2024-DAPHNE programme, it brings together four municipalities — Ferrara (Italy), Matosinhos (Portugal), Chania (Greece), and Strovolos (Cyprus) — to develop and put into practice comprehensive Child Safeguarding Policies, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
These policies are designed to protect children from harm in any activity, programme, or setting involving adults. The initiative focuses on creating child- and gender-sensitive protection measures, making it easier for children and families to access help when needed. Its goal is to build long-lasting changes in how cities protect their youngest residents, while also piloting approaches that can be adapted by other municipalities across Europe and beyond.
Sage in Town follows the globally recognised Keeping Children Safe standards — focusing on policies, people, procedures, referrals, and monitoring — and works closely with children, local authorities, and expert organisations. Together, they will create a set of indicators to measure how well the policies protect children and to track their impact over the project’s two-year period.
Through its collaborative efforts and focus on practical outcomes, Safe in Town aims to build a strong foundation for long‑term child protection, creating safer and more welcoming communities for every child.
