Webinar on International Standards on Child Safeguarding

On Thursday, 3rd of July, Hope For Children, together with our partners in the EU-funded Safe in Town project, are holding a webinar on International Standards on Child Safeguarding.

This webinar is open to public and private stakeholders, policymakers, social workers, educators, and all professionals working to promote child protection and wellbeing at the local level.

This is the first public event of the project and will introduce an innovative European initiative aimed at strengthening integrated child protection at the municipal level through the development and activation of City Child Safeguarding Policies (CCSPs).

Safe in Town, co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by Defence for Children Italy, is grounded in a child rights-based and wellbeing-centred approach. The project is being implemented in close coordination with local authorities, child protection experts, external stakeholders and children themselves.

This inclusive and participatory process will result in customised City Child Safeguarding Policies, aimed at strengthening local child protection systems and contributing to the prevention of and response to violence against children. These efforts are aligned with international safeguarding standards and EU Commission requirements for all initiatives involving children.

In each participating country, expert organisations will support local administrations in developing and activating the CCSPs:

  • Defence for Children Italy – Municipality of Ferrara
  • Defence for Children Greece – Municipality of Chania
  • CESIS Portugal – Municipality of Matosinhos
  • "Hope For Children" CRC Policy Centre, Cyprus – Municipality of Strovolos

The webinar will feature a presentation by Keeping Children Safe, a globally recognised organisation that developed the International Child Safeguarding Standards. These standards support public institutions and organisations in fulfilling their obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) by ensuring that children are protected from harm in any activity, programme, or setting involving adults.

During the session, KCS will present:

  • An overview of the four core standards: Policy, People, Procedures, and Accountability
  • Practical guidance for implementing the standards in municipal environments
  • Real-life examples and tools to help build coordinated, gender-sensitive and child-friendly safeguarding systems

A dedicated Q&A session will allow participants to engage directly with international experts and project partners and exchange experiences.
