Safe in Town: EU Child Safeguarding E-Learning Platform Launches
The EU-funded Safe in Town project has launched a free European e-learning platform on child safeguarding for professionals, practitioners, and volunteers working with children across the EU. Funded under the EU CERV Daphne Programme, the platform provides practical training to strengthen child protection systems and safeguarding practices at local level.
Designed for social workers, educators, healthcare staff, law enforcement, local authorities, NGOs, and volunteers, the platform supports individual learning, organisational training, and trainer-led teaching.
At its core is an eight-session online course covering key safeguarding topics, including prevention, early risk identification, referral pathways, inter-agency cooperation, child participation, and monitoring. The programme combines theory, interactive learning modules, and practical exercises suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners.
The training content is based on major European and international frameworks, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child, the 2024 Commission Recommendation on integrated child protection systems, Council of Europe standards, and the Keeping Children Safe international standards.
In addition to the course, the platform includes a shared glossary to promote common terminology across countries, as well as a Resource Centre with legal references, reading materials, and practical tools.
The project is coordinated by Defence for Children International Italia and implemented with partners in Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Cyprus, including Hope For Children CRC Policy Center and the Municipality of Strovolos.
The platform is currently available in English, with Italian, Greek, and Portuguese versions to be released in late spring 2026. Registration and access are free.
