The Rapporteur on the Rights of the Child

The Office of the Rapporteur on the Rights of the Child of “Hope For Children” CRC Policy Center was created by the Director-General for the purpose of bolstering respect for the human rights of children and adolescents in the world. The primary mandate of the Rapporteur ship on the Rights of the Child is the promotion of the human rights of children and adolescents within the jurisdiction of 195 Member States, which have ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child. As a result, the creation of the Office of the Rapporteur on the Rights of the Child will be able to perform all the functions assigned to it, in order to promote and defend human rights. The office of the Rapporteur may also conduct studies regarding the rights of children and adolescents.

The Rapporteurship on the Rights of the Child cooperates with the analysis and evaluation of the situation of the human rights of children in the world. Thus, the Rapporteur ship undertakes on site visits in the Member States and prepares studies and publications. These studies contribute to the development of International Human Rights Law. Furthermore, the above mentioned studies may include recommendations to encourage Member States to comply with international human rights standards. The Office of the Rapporteur undertakes on site visits throughout the Member States and during these visits, the Office of the Rapporteur establishes contacts with governmental authorities and civil society organizations that work in areas related to the rights of children and adolescents. Thus, these visits give the opportunity to observe in depth the problems that affect children and adolescents and to address recommendations to Member States aiming at guaranteeing the respect and enjoyment of the rights of the child. In the same way, the Office of the Rapporteur engages in promotional activities regarding the protection of the rights of children. For instance, the Rapporteur ship organizes seminaries, workshops and working meetings about international human rights standards. But most importantly, the Office of the Rapporteur on the Rights of the Child, intends to enhance the involvement of children in the work of its mandate to ensure that their voices are heard and taken into consideration in the design and implementation of measures to combat the sale and sexual exploitation of children and to better promote their rights and well-being.
