Within the framework of the European project "FAmily Based care for children in migration" (Ref. 958056), round tables were held in February 2023 with policy makers and local authorities working with unaccompanied minors to discuss gaps and obstacles in the care and integration of unaccompanied minors.
During the working tables, discussions focused on education, assistance, and communication of the procedures followed by authorities working with unaccompanied minors.
This shared policy document (available FA.B! Policy document_HFC.pdf in ENG), prepared by HFC and signed by stakeholders, is the result of the working tables and identifies recommended steps that need to be taken to address gaps in the care and inclusion of unaccompanied minors in both the short and long term, for better implementation of national practices. These recommendations fall under both international/EU and national legal frameworks related to the rights of unaccompanied children, with the goal of increasing the commitment of the government and NGOs working with the UMC to fulfill their obligations and, more specifically, to respect children's right to participate.
