Conceived and designed by four European organizations (Libera - Italy, Between - Portugal, OBESSU - Belgium, "Hope For Children" CRC Policy Center - Cyprus) and the Uganda Intercultural Development Agency, as a partner country, an innovative transnational project has been established with the clear objective of developing strategic tools and methodologies to facilitate social inclusion and skills development of marginalized youth - "HUMANNESS: EU Social Challenges and Civic Engagement for Solidarity".
The project "HUMANNESS: EU Social Challenges and Civic Engagement for Solidarity" is a transnational collaboration between four European organizations, African professionals, working to improve knowledge sharing related to cohesion, social development, democracy and inclusion. The project aims to create opportunities for marginalized youth to play an active role in their communities.
The first outcome of the project is the development of the report "Mapping Youth Solidarity Practices" (available in English), officially published in July 2023. It outlines the first research activities, including field research, conducted by the partnership to map youth solidarity engagement practices in rural and marginalized urban areas in Europe in Italy, Cyprus, Belgium and Portugal, and in the African partner country Uganda, as well as the needs, gaps, and other findings identified through these activities. The research aimed to gather relevant information and methodologies to serve as a starting point for the development of a Youth Community Engagement Model and the development of the Humanness Toolkit, which will be delivered at later stages of the HUMANNESS project. This report is aimed at youth workers, stakeholders in the field of youth policy and education, including policymakers, and the general public interested in national and transnational youth, solidarity and community initiatives.
In addition, the Consortium started to work on the conceptualization of a Youth Community Engagement Model that will provide youth workers with a guide for capacity building and knowledge sharing in the field of active citizenship. The model will be tested and adapted during the School of Active Citizenship in Uganda, where European and African youth workers will have the opportunity to discuss the challenges they face in solidarity and civic engagement of vulnerable youth in a globalized world.
To support the achievement of the goals set under HUMANNESS, a communication campaign has been launched in Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Cyprus and Uganda to increase the visibility of the key actions and results of the project.
